In the summer of 2008 while leading a student tour in Normandy, HTT3 had a chance for only a five minute stop in Tailleville, the place where Archie MacNaughton, Harold Daley, and James Strang were killed and Bill Savage wounded. The five minute stop became a forty-five minute stop as a result of a chance encounter. The Cassigneul family live on the property beside the fateful turn in the road where the tragedy occurred on D-Day, as they did during the war. Joseph Cassigneul was 20 years old on D-Day, and witnessed the catastrophe with his own eyes. Following our emotional meeting we have kept in touch over the years.

Fast forward from 2008 to 2019, the Cassigneuls were instrumental in organizing a ceremony dedicated to the North Shore Regiment on June 6th, 2019. Felix and Lucette graciously agreed to erect a plaque on their property dedicated to those who died in the village of Tailleville on D-Day. They also hosted on their premises our entire 150 student delegation, providing the chance to talk with eight different D-Day survivors, French civilians who witnessed the landings and their liberation by that of the Regiment.
